Care of Personal Property
The school is not responsible for the loss or damage of personal property. Students are advised to leave items of value at home and not share their locker combinations.
Lost & Found
Students are advised to check in the office for any items that may have been turned in. Items not claimed by the end of the school year will be donated.
Personal Listening Devices, Phones, Laptops, Tablets, etc.
Starting Aug. 29, CBE students will not be permitted to use personal mobile devices during instructional time, unless such use is approved by the teacher for learning activities, for health and medical needs and to support specialized learning needs.
For K-9, these new rules are similar to the ‘away-for-the-day’ guidelines that many schools have been using in recent years. Students in grades K-9 will not be permitted to use personal mobile devices during the school day. Student devices brought to school must be out of sight and either powered off or set to silent. They should be left in lockers or areas designated by teachers or better yet - simply left at home.
Exceptions will be granted for students with health or medical needs, for those with specialized learning requirements, and the use of devices for educational purposes will have appropriate access. Students who choose not to follow our personal device policy will have the following progressive consequences:
- First and Second Incident: Student will be asked to bring their personal device to the office where it will be stored securely until the end of the day when the student may pick them up. Parents and guardians will be contacted.
- Third Incident: Student will bring their personal device to the office where a parent or legal guardian will be asked to pick up the device.
MidSun School is not responsible for the safety of personal electronic devices.
Skateboards, Scooters, In-line Skates/Roller Blades & Heelies
In the CBE School Based Safety Resource Guide, these activities are listed as prohibited on-site activities and equipment. Students may use these modes of transportation to get to and from school but must walk once on CBE property. We have new skateboard racks being installed at the front of our school for student use. Students should lock their skateboards and scooters up during the day and take their lock home with them at the end of each day.
Bicycles and Bicycle Helmets
Under provincial legislation all youth, under 18, must wear a CSA, ATM or Snell-approved helmet. MidSun school supports this legislation and expects that any student who rides their bicycle on school property will be in compliance with this law. Students should lock their bike up during the day and take their lock home with them at the end of each day.
