The school is not responsible for the loss or damage of personal property. Students are advised to leave items of value at home and not share their locker combinations.
Lost & Found
Students are advised to check in the office for any items that may have been turned in. Items not claimed by the end of the school year will be donated.
Personal Mobile Devices – Away for the Day
MidSun School follows the CBE “Away for the Day” expectations for students in Kindergarten to Grade 9. Personal mobile devices include cell phones, tablets, laptops, gaming devices, smartwatches and connected devices such as headphones, earbuds and Bluetooth speakers.
At MidSun:
- Students are not permitted to use personal mobile devices during the school day.
- Devices brought to school must be out of sight and powered off or set to silent. Devices should be stored securely in a student’s locker, backpack or other designated area.
- Personal mobile devices may be used when an approved exception is in place for health or medical needs, specialized learning needs or educational purposes.
- Social media platforms are not accessible through CBE networks or CBE-owned devices for students.
- Students are responsible for personal devices they bring to school. MidSun School and the CBE are not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged personal devices.
If a Student Does Not Follow the Expectations
MidSun uses a progressive approach when students do not follow personal mobile device expectations. Students will be reminded of the expectations and may be required to turn their device in for secure storage. Parents/guardians may be contacted, and repeated concerns may require a parent/guardian to pick up the device or result in further school-based consequences.
Families who need to contact their child during the school day are encouraged to contact the MidSun School office, and staff will assist with communication.
Our goal is to keep personal devices away for the day so students can focus on learning, relationships and being actively engaged in our school community.
Skateboards, Scooters and Similar Equipment
For the safety of students, staff and visitors, skateboards, scooters, longboards, in-line skates and similar equipment are not permitted to be ridden on CBE school property.
- Students may use these forms of transportation to travel to and from school.
- Upon reaching school property, students must dismount and walk or carry their equipment.
- Skateboard and scooter racks are available at the front of MidSun School for student use.
- Students are responsible for providing a secure lock and ensuring their equipment is locked during the school day.
- All equipment and locks should be taken home at the end of each day. MidSun School is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged personal property.
Bicycles and Bicycle Helmets
Many MidSun students choose to ride their bicycles to and from school. Students are expected to follow safe cycling practices and take responsibility for securing their bicycles during the school day.
- In Alberta, cyclists under 18 years of age are required by law to wear an approved bicycle helmet.
- Students should dismount and walk their bicycles while on school property.
- Bicycle racks are available for student use at MidSun School.
- Students are responsible for providing a secure bicycle lock and locking their bicycle during the school day.
- Bicycles and locks should be taken home at the end of each day. MidSun School is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged bicycles or personal property.
