Personal Electronic Devices
Students at MidSun are not permitted to have their cellphones, smart watches or air-pods during the school day. Students who choose not to follow our personal device policy will have the following progressive consequences:
- First and Second Incident: Student will be asked to bring their personal device to the office where it will be stored securely until the end of the day when the student may pick them up. Parents and guardians will be contacted.
- Third Incident: Student will bring their personal device to the office where a parent or legal guardian will be asked to pick up the device.
MidSun School is not responsible for the safety of personal electronic devices.
Computer Access
Computers are available throughout the school for student research and assignments. Computer use requires teacher permission and supervision. Students should save their work in their google EDU account. Students are permitted to bring personal wireless devices to use on our wireless network (other than cell phones) but are responsible for their operation, care and safety. Access to the MidSun computer network or wireless network will be restricted or revoked for unacceptable use. Students are not to use computers for any activity not related to school assignments or school sponsored activities. Students agree that by using the school’s computer and/or internet access, whether authorized or unauthorized, students will have no right to privacy on the computers and must be in compliance with the CBE’s Student Code of Conduct. We will handle inappropriate use using the CBE’s Progressive Discipline Policy. Students and parents should also be familiar with CBE administrative regulations 1062, 1064 and 1067 governing the use of electronic devices. Families may be required to pay for repairs to computers that have been damaged as a result of inappropriate use.
Internet Access
Students may access the internet with teacher permission. Surfing, streaming of personal material and gaming are not permitted. Students must ultimately be responsible for their use of the internet and computer resources. Student access to the internet through personal devices is restricted to the CBE wifi while on site.
All students have a CBE email account and Google account. Student email is filtered and access may be restricted or disabled when students contravene the Student Code of Conduct. Students should never provide personal information such as address, phone numbers or email passwords via email.
Student Computer Password
Student passwords are exclusively the responsibility of each individual student. Passwords are never to be shared and should be changed regularly to prevent password hijacking. Students should never walk away from a computer logged on with their password. Students are responsible for actions or incidents that may occur on their school account whether they are present or not.
Cyberbullying
Using the MidSun, CBE, or any other network accessible through MidSun computers, to put down, harass, threaten, or in any way, demean any student or person is prohibited and will be dealt with severely– this can include suspension and/or legal recourse. Parents are encouraged to monitor the information their child sends or receives through texting and various social media to ensure it is appropriate and help to mitigate potential issues which may otherwise follow when the students meet at school. Printing
Student prints are regulated by network print software. All students have been provided a 35-page printing allotment. If additional pages are needed they can be purchased at approximately 15 cents per page from the Learning Commons. Students will only be able to print in black and white as there is no student color printer. Students can also arrange with their teacher to send their work electronically or have their teacher print it out (as a temporary/emergency measure).
