What Happens on Fridays?
Fridays are regular, mandatory school days at MidSun and all CBE Schools. Our Fridays work on a rotating schedule so all students attends their core classes and one of their PE or complementary courses. Every other week we have one period dedicated to wellness and wellbeing. As the week draws to a close, there is a natural inclination to conclude units of study. Fridays are often the days where teachers administer summative assessments or directly oversee assignment completion. In many ways, Fridays can be the most significant day of the week in respect to student achievement.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Mr. Slaughter is in need of parent volunteers for ENVOE 8 and 9 field trips to SoCal Bouldering on April 11 for Gr. 8s and April 16 for Gr. 9s. As well, he requires volunteers for trips to Rocky Mountain Climbing Centre on April 25 for Gr. 8s and May 1 for Gr. 9s. If there are not enough volunteers for the trips, the trips may have to be merged or cancelled. Any student that has been in or is currently in ENVOE 8 or 9 is eligible for the field trips. Please contact Mr. Slaughter if you can volunteer. sjslaughter@cbe.ab.ca

What is a GSA?
Gay Straight Alliances / Genders & Sexualities Alliances, or GSAs for short, are student-run organizations that unite LGBTQIA2+ and allied youth to build community and organize issues impacting them in their schools and communities. GSAs have evolved beyond their traditional role to serve as safe spaces for LGBTQIA2+ youth in middle and high schools and have emerged as vehicles for deep social change related to racial, gender, and educational justice.
A growing body of research confirms that the presence of a GSA has a positive and lasting effect on student health, wellness, and academic performance. It can also protect students from harassment
based on sexual orientation or gender identity and improve school climates for all students in the long term.
FROM THE OFFICE
Moving Soon? As we prepare for our 2024-2025 School year, it is important to have accurate enrolment numbers. If you know you are moving out of the MidSun School boundary, we would appreciate if you call or email the school to inform us that your child(ren) will not be attending next year. This helps us prepare for the upcoming year.
Absent or Leaving Early?
Please email midsun@cbe.ab.ca to let us know if your child will be away, late, or needs to leave early for any reason. For absences greater than 3 days, an Extended Absence Form needs to be completed and sent to our office. This does not apply to absences due to illness. See more on our Attendance page.
2023-2024 Yearbook – ORDER NOW!
Yearbooks are available to order on your student’s PowerSchool account. You will need to add this $30 yearbook fee from the goods and services tab. Yearbooks will be delivered in September, but must be pre-ordered now. Purchase a yearbook to invest in this amazing memory for the future!
Parents / Guardians
Webinar Series The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join us in an online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions are hosted in partnership with experts from Alberta Health Services and will explore topics such as vaping, brain development, mental health, and sexual health. Click here to learn more: Child and Youth Well-Being: A Webinar Series for Parents and Guardians
CBE educators believe that parents and guardians can inspire their kids to make healthy lifestyle choices and increase protective factors – in order to do so, they need the right tools and information. Well-being is a precondition for learning. As our understanding of student well-being continues to evolve, it is important for those that support children and youth to stay up to date on the same information so everyone can support student success. The intention of the series is to advance student well-being by raising family and caregiver’s understanding of a variety of health-related topics. Thank you for your time and consideration to join us.
April 11: 6:30pm - 8:00pm Healthy Sexual Development
Transportation

If your child’s bus is delayed, please check the CBE transportation website: https://cbe.ab.ca/schools/busing-and-transportation/Pages/default.aspx OR MyBusStop App for more information. The MidSun school code is: CBEMIKZSDO
This could also impact families using Calgary Transit. Families should have back-up plans in place if transportation is unavailable.
Healthy Hunger - Fun Lunches
To order your child a lunch please click this link: https://healthyhunger.ca/
All orders close 5 days before the lunch event.
If you have never created an account you will need to register a new account. If you have previously ordered from Health Hunger (from any school) you can just log in. From your account, you will have to register your student at MidSun using their homeroom and teacher. For example: 071/Hanson.
