Spreading Holiday Cheer Through Creativity, Compassion and Community
Thank you to all of our families for your incredible generosity in donating items to the Adopt-A-Family Campaign. Your thoughtful contributions truly embody the spirit of giving and will have a meaningful impact on the lives of the families we are supporting. Because of your kindness, these families will be able to experience the joy and warmth of the holiday season in a special way. Every item donated reflects the care and compassion of our community, and we are deeply grateful for your support in making this campaign a success. This past week has been filled with wonderful events and achievements that truly captured the holiday spirit at MidSun School! Congratulations to Mr. Hutchinson and the band students for an outstanding concert that showcased their hard work and talent, spreading festive cheer through music. A big thank you to Mr. Wilson, Mr. Agar and Mr. Lauser for organizing a successful Art Auction and Christmas Market, which brought creativity and joy to our community. Additionally, a special thanks to Ms. Luelo for coordinating snacks and lunches for Elder Shirley, ensuring her visit was both welcoming and well-supported. These efforts have made our school a warm and vibrant place during this special season!
A heartfelt thank you to all our school families for your thoughtfulness and generosity in sending treats for our school staff. Your kind gestures and delicious contributions have truly brightened our days and made us feel appreciated during this busy time of year. It means so much to know that our efforts to support and teach your children are recognized and valued. These treats have not only brought smiles to our faces but also reminded us of the incredible community we are fortunate to be a part of. Thank you for helping to spread joy and holiday spirit throughout our school—it is truly appreciated!

Are you looking for a stocking stuffer idea for your child? Our students are running low on some of their school supply basics. Please check in with your child to see if they have what they need to replenish their pens, pencils, erasers etc.
Outstanding Fees
Please check your student’s MyCBE account to ensure all outstanding fees are paid.
Demographic Forms are OVERDUE. If you have NOT yet completed your child’s demographic forms for 2024-25. Please Log-in to MyCBE and complete the forms Online. This is very important for our office to have the most accurate information that is up to date.
Lost & Found!
If your child has lost any items such as hoodies or jackets or even water bottles, please drop by the school to look through our collection before the winter break!
Any items left after December 20 will be donated to charity.
Drama
Musical Auditions
Our school musical this year is Disney's Frozen Jr.!! Are you interested in auditioning for the show?
Frozen Jr. Musical Auditions will take place on Tuesday, December 17 at 4:00 pm -5:00 pm in the Drama Room. Make-Up Auditions will take place on Wednesday, December 18 - Day 1 during Drama Club at lunch
No experience is necessary. Performers should come to the audition in clothes they can move in. We will be doing drama exercises, dancing and each student will read a small excerpt of a script. Students are asked to prepare a small singing performance no longer than 30 seconds, to show off their singing abilities. Backing tracks are not required. You can sing Happy Birthday if you do not have a song prepared. Please, do not sing a song from Frozen.
If you would like to be a part of the backstage crew, please come to the auditions!
Frozen Jr. is a large commitment. Students need to be available for rehearsals Monday and Wednesday 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm starting in January with the show opening in mid-April.

Physical Education
Athletic Teams
If your student is/was a part of a MidSun athletic team (soccer, basketball, or wrestling) please make sure your fees are paid. At this time, we have a number of unpaid team fees, so please double check your school account. Here is the link https://sis.cbe.ab.ca/public/
Volleyball team tryouts will start on January 7 for Grade 8 and 9 students that are trying out for the senior teams. Grade 7 and 8 students that are trying out for the junior team will start later in the week and continue through the beginning of the next week. A full tryout schedule will be posted on December 18 after school.
If your student makes one of the teams, girl’s games will be played on Tuesday or Thursday evenings (after school till 7:00 pm). Spelling Bee Club
For those who want to improve their literacy skills by becoming a Wordsmith!
The Spelling Bee Club happens every Day 6 with Ms. Lawson in Room 12 from 1:30 to 1:50 pm during lunch!!!

Our next School Council Meeting is on Tuesday, January 28 at 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm in the Learning Commons. All parents are welcome to attend our monthly meetings. This is a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other parents to make a positive impact on the education and experience of our students.

Visit the AHS Community Education Service website to register for their free community programs. Topics include managing stress, bullying, peer-pressure, managing anxiety, grief and loss, brain science, addiction, birth control and sexuality, domestic violence.

Helpful Reminders

- Does your child require an Epipen? For students who require access to medical supplies at school (i.e. epipen), please submit a Student Health Plan as soon as possible to midsun@cbe.ab.ca
- Absent or Leaving Early? Please email midsun@cbe.ab.ca to let us know if your child will be away, late, or needs to leave early for any reason.
- Home for Lunch? MidSun School is a closed campus and students are not permitted to leave the school grounds without prior parent consent.
If your child lives close enough to the school to go home for lunch, please email midsun@cbe.ab.ca that your child will be leaving for lunch. Students must check out at the office when they leave. - Staying for Lunch? Delivery Food Orders for students such as “Skip the Dishes, Door Dash, etc.” are not permitted at MidSun. Please do not send these orders to the school. Our main office will not accept delivery.
- Please note that students need to provide their own utensils at lunch, as the school does not have a budget for this.
