CARNIVAL ADOPT-A-FAMILY Huge Success!!

The Leadership students and staff at MidSun want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for helping to support our Adopt-A-Family program this holiday season!

With many families in need, it is so wonderful to see the support and generosity of our community to help whenever possible.

Carnival raised money to help buy grocery gift cards for our families. Many of you have taken a tag from our cabinet and gifts have been coming to the school all week for our families. Our food drive has been a huge support for our families in need as well.

Thank you so much for your generosity! Our families in need truly appreciate it 🙂

MIDSUN ONLINE STORE – Now Open!

We are opening our on-line apparel store again!  We have Hoodies, Joggers, T-shirts and Shorts, Sweatshirts and Toques!! The on-line store will be open till December 31st, and will be delivered by the end of January. Make sure you get your orders in, once the store closes, we cannot re-open.  It is always safer to go up in size as there are no exchanges or refunds.  If your student is smaller in stature, the smallest you should order is youth large.  Your students grow fast, and the clothes will last a lot longer if you size up!  Click on the link below to order now!!!  https://midsungymstrip.itemorder.com

ATHLETICS

A reminder to all parents/guardians of our student athletes for soccer, basketball and wrestling to make sure you have paid the fee on MyCBE.

Volleyball tryouts will be starting right after winter break.  The schedule for tryouts will be on our website before winter break begins.  A new change is that the junior teams will consist of grade 7 and grade 8 athletes and the senior teams will consist of grade 8 and grade 9 athletes.  Grade 8 students are allowed to tryout for the senior team first and if they do not make the team, they may try out for the junior team.

We appreciate all of you support of athletics at MidSun!

ENVOE

A reminder that all ENVOE students need to come prepared to be outside to cross-country ski if there is snow on the ground.  Students need to have a jacket, gloves, and toque/hat at a minimum.  An extra pair of long socks, wind/rain/snow pants, or gaiters are also a good idea to keep from getting cold in case of a fall.  Students will be assessed on their preparedness for the outdoor activity, so coming unprepared will result in a poor assessment of ENVOE Preparation Skills for Outdoor Expeditions.

Parents / Guardians

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join us in an online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions are hosted in partnership with experts from Alberta Health Services and will explore topics such as vaping, brain development, mental health, and sexual health.  Click here to learn more: Child and Youth Well-Being:  A Webinar Series for Parents and Guardians

CBE educators believe that parents and guardians can inspire their kids to make healthy lifestyle choices and increase protective factors – in order to do so, they need the right tools and information.  Well-being is a precondition for learning. As our understanding of student well-being continues to evolve, it is important for those that support children and youth to stay up to date on the same information so everyone can support student success.  The intention of the series is to advance student well-being by raising family and caregiver’s understanding of a variety of health-related topics. Thank you for your time and consideration to join us.

GSA

We will meet every day 3 at lunch in the Drama room. All are welcome!

What is a GSA?

Gay Straight Alliances / Genders & Sexualities Alliances, or GSAs for short, are student-run organizations that unite LGBTQIA2+ and allied youth to build community and organize issues impacting them in their schools and communities. GSAs have evolved beyond their traditional role to serve as safe spaces for LGBTQIA2+ youth in middle and high schools and have emerged as vehicles for deep social change related to racial, gender, and educational justice.

A growing body of research confirms that the presence of a GSA has a positive and lasting effect on student health, wellness, and academic performance. It can also protect students from harassment based on sexual orientation or gender identity and improve school climates for all students in the long term.

Transportation

Yellow school bus service may be impacted by last-minute staffing challenges due to illness/weather. If your child’s bus is delayed, please check the CBE transportation website:  https://cbe.ab.ca/schools/busing-and-transportation/Pages/default.aspx OR MyBusStop App for more information.  The MidSun school code is: CBEMIKZSDO

This could also impact families using Calgary Transit. Families should have back-up plans in place if transportation is unavailable.

Healthy Hunger - Fun Lunches

To order your child a lunch please click this link: https://healthyhunger.ca/

All orders close 5 days before the lunch event

If you have never created an account you will need to register a new account. If you have previously ordered from Health Hunger (from any school) you can just log in. From your account, you will have to register your student at MidSun using their homeroom and teacher. For example: 071/Hanson. All proceeds made from these Fun Lunches goes directly back to the school to enhance your child's education. Thank you for your support!
