Winter Carnival 2023

The Leadership classes at MidSun School have been preparing for our traditional Winter Carnival. This is a school wide event that will be focusing on raising money for families in need this holiday season (Adopt-A-Family).

The gymnasium will be transformed into a fun-filled day of games and activities for students to play. Students will need to either purchase a wristband for $10 (on sale every day at lunch) or some individual tickets. A wristband allows for unlimited play. Students will have the chance to win draw tickets and these draw tickets will be entered for a chance to win prizes. In past carnivals some of the amazing prizes were: Air Pods; a Bluetooth speaker; Chinook Mall gift card; Amazon gift card, etc. Prizes will be similar again this year and announced once they have been purchased.

Thank you for your support in this Annual Charity Event!

Ms. Amirault & Grade 8 & 9 Leadership Students

MIDSUN ANNUAL ADOPT-A-FAMILY CAMPAIGN

We are launching the ADOPT-A-FAMILY charity program that will run over the next few weeks. From now until December 15th, students and families are encouraged to help make Christmas just a bit better for families in great need.

In the display case in the front hallway, there will be gift tags with items on each family member’s wish list. Donations can also be in the form of cash, gift cards, or stocking stuffers.

Students are encouraged to talk to their parents about the items. If you are able to donate one of the items, students can take a tag from the front display case, attach it to the gift and turn it into Ms. Amirault.  With any purchased gifts, could you please tape on a gift receipt in case the item does not fit. New items only, please no used gifts.

These are families in great need with children that we can help support. Every little bit counts Adopt-A-Family Campaign

MidSun school has adopted 3 families in Calgary that need a little help to make their holiday season a little bit brighter. We will be posting tags in our front display case with items that can be purchased for our families. If you would like to support the families, here is what you need to do:

  • Have your child find Ms. Amirault or Mrs. Purslow to select a tag(s) from the cabinet.
  • Go shopping! Yay!
  • Ensure to ask for a GIFT RECEIPT before payment
  • Bring the gift back to the school (unwrapped) along with the tag from the cabinet as well as the gift receipt.
  • Please - no ‘used’ items

If you would rather help by donating cash or gift cards, we can do the shopping for you!

Timeline:

Friday, Dec. 15th - last chance to select a tag from the cabinet

Monday, Dec. 18th - Gifts that have been purchased must be brought to the school along with gift receipt and original tag from the cabinet.

Parents / Guardians

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join us in an online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions are hosted in partnership with experts from Alberta Health Services and will explore topics such as vaping, brain development, mental health, and sexual health.  Click here to learn more: Child and Youth Well-Being:  A Webinar Series for Parents and Guardians

CBE educators believe that parents and guardians can inspire their kids to make healthy lifestyle choices and increase protective factors – in order to do so, they need the right tools and information.  Well-being is a precondition for learning. As our understanding of student well-being continues to evolve, it is important for those that support children and youth to stay up to date on the same information so everyone can support student success.  The intention of the series is to advance student well-being by raising family and caregiver’s understanding of a variety of health-related topics. Thank you for your time and consideration to join us.

March 14: 6:30pm - 8:00pm Mental Health & Anxiety Grades 7-12

GSA

We will meet every day 3 at lunch in the Drama room. All are welcome!

What is a GSA?

Gay Straight Alliances / Genders & Sexualities Alliances, or GSAs for short, are student-run organizations that unite LGBTQIA2+ and allied youth to build community and organize issues impacting them in their schools and communities. GSAs have evolved beyond their traditional role to serve as safe spaces for LGBTQIA2+ youth in middle and high schools and have emerged as vehicles for deep social change related to racial, gender, and educational justice.

A growing body of research confirms that the presence of a GSA has a positive and lasting effect on student health, wellness, and academic performance. It can also protect students from harassment based on sexual orientation or gender identity and improve school climates for all students in the long term.

Transportation

Yellow school bus service may be impacted by last-minute staffing challenges due to illness/weather. If your child’s bus is delayed, please check the CBE transportation website:  https://cbe.ab.ca/schools/busing-and-transportation/Pages/default.aspx OR MyBusStop App for more information.  The MidSun school code is: CBEMIKZSDO

This could also impact families using Calgary Transit. Families should have back-up plans in place if transportation is unavailable.

Healthy Hunger - Fun Lunches

To order your child a lunch please click this link: https://healthyhunger.ca/

All orders close 5 days before the lunch event

If you have never created an account you will need to register a new account. If you have previously ordered from Health Hunger (from any school) you can just log in. From your account, you will have to register your student at MidSun using their homeroom and teacher. For example: 071/Hanson. Please ensure you have the correct home room number as this is how lunches will be distributed. All proceeds made from these Fun Lunches goes directly back to the school to enhance your child's education. Thank you for your support!
