From Administration
Weather is Getting Warmer - Happy February
As we move into February and the weather begins to warm, we are encouraging students to get outside whenever possible to enjoy fresh air and movement, which supports well-being and readiness to learn.
Grade 9 → Grade 10 Transition→ Planning Course Recommendations and Options
It is that time of year when our Grade 9 students begin the process of registering for courses at their designated high schools.
Course recommendations are completed by your child’s teachers based on a fulsome understanding of your child’s current learning, demonstrated skills, and the requirements of Grade 10 courses. Teachers have worked carefully and collaboratively to ensure they are making the best possible recommendations to support your child’s success.
If you have questions about your child’s recommendation, or would like guidance on how your child can work toward a different pathway, we encourage you to reach out directly to your child’s teacher to discuss strategies and supports.
Below is important information based on your child’s designated high school:
Centennial High School
Registration forms for students designated to Centennial will be sent home with students on Friday, February 6. Completed forms must be returned no later than Wednesday, February 18. Centennial guidance counsellors will be at MidSun on February 18 to complete student registration in person.
On the form, you will rank your child's top 5 options and then sign the form. Please have your child bring the signed forms back to their HUM teacher as soon as possible.
For a comprehensive description of option course offerings please visit the school website: https://centennial.cbe.ab.ca/complementary-subjects
Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School
Ms. Norcross will email each family who is designated to Scarlett a link to register online. This email will also include your child’s core course recommendations and will be sent on Friday, February 6.
Please see their website for more information regarding core and complementary subjects: https://drepscarlett.cbe.ab.ca/teaching-learning
Joane Cardinal-Schubert High School
Registration forms for students designated to Joane Cardinal-Schubert will be sent home on Friday, February 6. Completed forms should be returned to Ms. Norcross by February 18, and she will forward them to the high school.
Please see their website for more information regarding core and complementary subjects: https://joanecardinalschubert.cbe.ab.ca/registration
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Natalie Norcross at nenorcross@cbe.ab.ca or 403-777-6430.
Did You Know? – Spectator Expectations at School Sporting Events
School Administration Attends Games at CBE Schools
With volleyball season upon us, we would like to remind families of our Parent/Spectator Expectations at MidSun School sporting and athletic events. These expectations help ensure a safe, respectful, and positive environment for all students, officials, and staff.
Please note the following expectations:
- Non-team students attending games must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
- If younger siblings are in attendance, parents are responsible for supervising them, as other school activities and events may be occurring in the building at the same time.
- School administration attends games to help support student safety and to monitor and support spectator behaviour throughout the event.
- Please be kind and respectful to referees and scorekeepers. In some cases, referees may be high school students who are developing their officiating skills and sharing their knowledge of the game.
- Respect all calls of play, even when you may not agree with a decision.
- Appropriate language is expected at all times in the stands.
- Any spectator who does not follow these expectations may be asked to leave the event.
- Spectator expectations align with CBE Administrative Regulation 3060 (Student Conduct) for school activities and events.
Thank you for your continued support in creating a positive and respectful environment for all student-athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators.
