From Administration

Did You Know…

There are only 4 weeks remaining in the 2025-26 school year! As we head into June, attendance continues to matter. Students are completing final projects, assessments, field experiences, and year-end activities, so every day counts.

The forecast is calling for significant rain at the start of the week, which may impact outdoor lunch activities, Physical Education classes, and ENVOE programming. Please ensure your child comes prepared with appropriate clothing and footwear for changing weather conditions.

A few important reminders are included in this week's newsletter, including school apparel orders, library book returns and book donations, track and field volunteer opportunities, yearbook ordering information, and yellow bus registration for next year. Thank you for your continued support as we finish the school year strong!

MidSun School Apparel Store – Now Open! Our online MidSun apparel store is now open and will remain available until June 30. Order your school gear now and have it ready for pickup in September!

Available items include:

  • Hoodies
  • Sweatshirts
  • Joggers
  • T-shirts
  • Beanies

A sizing tip from experience: Students tend to grow a lot over the summer, so we strongly recommend ordering larger sizes. In most cases, adult sizes are the best choice, and youth sizes should only be selected if your child is smaller for their age. Please note that all orders are custom-made and cannot be exchanged or refunded. In previous years, some students were disappointed when their apparel no longer fit by September.

The store closes on June 30, and once it closes, orders cannot be added or the store reopened. We encourage families to place their orders early before summer activities take over!

National Indigenous Peoples History Month – June 2026

June is recognized as National Indigenous Peoples History Month, a time to honour and celebrate the rich histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples across Canada.

We invite MidSun students, families, and staff to join in recognizing National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21 and Calgary Aboriginal Awareness Week, June 15–21. Throughout the month, Indigenous Education is sharing opportunities and resources to help our school community learn, reflect, celebrate, and deepen our understanding of Indigenous perspectives and experiences. Event for families are included below. All are welcome.

Learning Commons Update – Library Book Returns & Book Donations

As we prepare for the end of the school year, we ask that all library books be returned to the Learning Commons by June 12.

We are also excited to be planning a refresh of our Learning Commons collection and are looking to add new titles that will engage and inspire our students. If you have any gently used or new books that may appeal to junior high readers, we would greatly appreciate your donations.

We are particularly interested in:

  • Teen and Young Adult (YA) fiction and non-fiction
  • Graphic novels
  • Sports-related books
  • Guinness World Records books

Book donations can be dropped off in the Learning Commons or at the school office.

Thank you for helping us build an engaging, welcoming, and student-centered Learning Commons for all MidSun learners!

Physical Education

We are in the final stretch to the end of the school year.  Please help remind your student to have laced running shoes at school. Because the weather is beautiful, some students are wearing sandals to school and forgetting to bring runners. For the last 4 weeks of PE students are getting some say in what they want to do by choosing modules.  Ask them what they did last week!!

Track and Field

Track and field tryouts are complete, and the PE team will be putting together all the results from class and the tryouts to make the team.  The team will be put together this week, and students will know if they made the team mid-week.

We are looking for 3 parent volunteers to help us at the track meet on Friday, June 12 from 8:30 am-3:30 pm. You can drive your own vehicle to and from, and we will need help at the shot-put event.  There will be University of Calgary students running the event; you will be there for supervision and to help organize students.  Please let me know if you are available and have your volunteer clearance completed. Email Jen Purslow at jmpurslow@cbe.ab.ca
