From Administration

As we head into the final two weeks of the school year, I would like to thank all of our families for their continued support throughout another busy and successful year at MidSun. It was wonderful to see so many parents and family members at our Track and Field Day last Friday cheering on our student athletes. Our final Band Concert of the year was also a tremendous success and showcased the hard work, growth, and talent of our music students. Spirit Week brought lots of energy and school pride, with impressive participation from students and staff—and even a few "celebrities" were spotted walking the halls!

This week, our Grade 9 students continue with their Mathematics Provincial Achievement Tests, while the rest of the school looks forward to a Freezie Sale, Timbit Pick-Up Day, and our Indigenous Peoples Day learning activities on Thursday. Students are encouraged to wear orange as we take time to learn about and reflect on the history, heritage, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. We also have Vaccine Catch-Up Day scheduled for Wednesday.

As we move toward the final days of June, excitement is building for Grade 8 Calaway Park, Grade 7 Heritage Park, Sports Day, Grade 9 Farewell, Battle of the Bands, our year-end Pancake Breakfast, and many other celebrations that recognize a year of learning, growth, and achievement.

Did You Know…

On Thursday, June 18, MidSun students will participate in a school-wide Indigenous Peoples Day learning activity. Students will explore the significance of National Indigenous Peoples Day, learn about the history and meaning behind our community name, Sundance, and reflect on the importance of understanding the history of the land and community where we live.

As part of the day, students will create personal reflections that will become "sun rays" displayed around our school logo, representing our collective commitment to learning, respect, and reconciliation.

Key Dates: Grade 9 Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) – Spring 2026

Please see the upcoming schedule for Grade 9 Provincial Achievement Tests.

Due to our 9:15 AM Bell time and bus arrivals, all exams will begin promptly at 9:30 AM, so we ask that students arrive on time to school and prepared.

Regular attendance is especially important during this final term as we continue to support students in their learning and preparation. Thank you for your partnership in helping students feel confident and ready during PAT season.

Mark your calendar!
The first meeting of the 2026–27 school year will be:

Information Previously Shared with Families

MidSun School Apparel Store – Now Open! Our online MidSun apparel store is now open and will remain available until June 30. Order your school gear now and have it ready for pickup in September!

Order here: https://midsunapparel.itemorder.com

Available items include:

  • Hoodies
  • Sweatshirts
  • Joggers
  • T-shirts
  • Beanies

A sizing tip from experience: Students tend to grow a lot over the summer, so we strongly recommend ordering larger sizes. In most cases, adult sizes are the best choice, and youth sizes should only be selected if your child is smaller for their age. Please note that all orders are custom-made and cannot be exchanged or refunded. In previous years, some students were disappointed when their apparel no longer fit by September.

The store closes on June 30, and once it closes, orders cannot be added or the store reopened. We encourage families to place their orders early before summer activities take over!

If you have any questions, please contact Jen Purslow at jmpurslow@cbe.ab.ca

Thank you for showing your MidSun pride!

National Indigenous Peoples History Month – June 2026

June is recognized as National Indigenous Peoples History Month, a time to honour and celebrate the rich histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples across Canada.

We invite MidSun students, families, and staff to join in recognizing National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21 and Calgary Aboriginal Awareness Week, June 15–21. Throughout the month, Indigenous Education is sharing opportunities and resources to help our school community learn, reflect, celebrate, and deepen our understanding of Indigenous perspectives and experiences. Events for families are included below. All are welcome.

Learning Commons Update – Library Book Returns & Book Donations

All library books are now due back to the Learning Commons.

We are also excited to be planning a refresh of our Learning Commons collection and are looking to add new titles that will engage and inspire our students. If you have any gently used or new books that may appeal to junior high readers, we would greatly appreciate your donations.

We are particularly interested in:

  • Teen and Young Adult (YA) fiction and non-fiction
  • Graphic novels
  • Sports-related books
  • Guinness World Records books

Book donations can be dropped off in the Learning Commons or at the school office.

Thank you for helping us build an engaging, welcoming, and student-centered Learning Commons for all MidSun learners!

Physical Education

We are in the final stretch to the end of the school year.  Please help remind your student to have laced running shoes at school. Because the weather is beautiful, some students wear sandals to school and forget to bring runners. For the last 2 weeks of PE students get some say in what they want to do by choosing modules.  Ask them what they did last week!!

Athletic Team Games and Practices

To access the most current Athletic information including dates and times for all athletic team games, practices and coaches, click on this link:  https://midsun.cbe.ab.ca/athletics

Bicycle/Skateboard/Scooter Security
Please ensure your student is securely locking their Bike/Skateboard/Scooter at the school. Students must wear helmets when biking to school. Some bikes are being left unlocked and we want to make sure they are safe and secure.

Grade 9 Farewell- Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 10:00 – 11:30 AM

We look forward to celebrating our Grade 9 students as they prepare to transition to high school. The Grade 9 Farewell will be a school-based celebration recognizing their achievements and the completion of junior high.

Students are encouraged to wear smart, semi-formal attire (similar to a holiday or family celebration). Formal gowns or tuxedos are not required. Grade 9 Families are welcome to attend.

Reminder: Closed Campus Expectations

MidSun School operates as a closed campus, meaning students are not permitted to leave school grounds during the day without parent/guardian consent.

If your child lives close enough to go home for lunch, please email midsun@cbe.ab.ca  to provide permission for them to leave daily. All students must check out at the office before leaving the school.
