FROM THE OFFICE
Home for Lunch?MidSun School is a closed campus. Students are not permitted to leave the school grounds without parent consent. Please email midsun@cbe.ab.ca if your child will be leaving for lunch. Students must check out at the office when they leave.
Moving Soon?
If your student is moving out of the MidSun School boundary, please you call the school or email midsun@cbe.ab.ca to inform us that your child(ren) will not be attending next year. This helps us prepare for the upcoming school year.
Absent or Leaving Early?
Please email midsun@cbe.ab.ca to let us know if your child will be away, late, or needs to leave early for any reason. For absences greater than 3 days, an Extended Absence Form needs to be completed and sent to our office. This does not apply to absences due to illness. See more on our Attendance page.
What Happens on Fridays?
Fridays are regular, mandatory school days at MidSun and all CBE Schools. Our Fridays work on a rotating schedule so all students attends their core classes and one of their PE or complementary courses. Every other week we have one period dedicated to wellness and wellbeing. As the week draws to a close, there is a natural inclination to conclude units of study. Fridays are often the days where teachers administer summative assessments or directly oversee assignment completion. In many ways, Fridays can be the most significant day of the week in respect to student achievement.
FROM BLUE POD
The Blue Pod is looking to build up our resources of vocational and choice supplies. We are wondering if any staff and/or MidSun families would have the following to donate to our programs:
- nuts and bolts (for sorting and for fine motor practice)
- paper shredder (s)
- clothing for folding (socks, t-shirts, pants, shorts, dish towels, cloth napkins, towels)
- plastic cups, plates, bowls (sturdy ones that we could wash in the sink but not breakable)
- plastic containers with a screw top lid to practice opening containers
- comforter set with a fitted sheet, flat sheet, comforter, and pillow cases to practice folding
- games and puzzles (up to 50 pieces)
- building-type games
If you have any of these items that you are willing to donate to our programs, please email Jen Laughy at jclaughy@cbe.ab.ca. Thank you!
LOST & FOUND - Last chance JUNE 27th
Our lost and found items will be held at the school until June 27th. After that date, any items left behind will be donated to goodwill. We have many sweatshirts and water bottles that have been left behind over the semester.
MIDSUN SCHOOL APPAREL
Are you looking to purchase some MidSun apparel? Our on-line store is now open and ready for your orders. Clothing can be purchased until June 30, 2024, after that the store is closed, so don’t forget!!!! Because the orders are custom made, there are no refunds or exchanges. In the past we have had a few disappointed students because the clothing that was ordered was too small for them. Unless your student is smaller in stature, I urge you to order adult sizes. They grow like weeds, and I’m sure you would like the clothing to fit for a few years.
Orders will be delivered to the school during the first week of September, barring any supply chain problems.

GSA
GSA will meet every Day 3 at lunch in the Drama room. All are welcome!
What is a GSA?
Gay Straight Alliances / Genders & Sexualities Alliances, or GSAs for short, are student-run organizations that unite LGBTQIA2+ and allied youth to build community and organize issues impacting them in their schools and communities. GSAs have evolved beyond their traditional role to serve as safe spaces for LGBTQIA2+ youth in middle and high schools and have emerged as vehicles for deep social change related to racial, gender, and educational justice.
A growing body of research confirms that the presence of a GSA has a positive and lasting effect on student health, wellness, and academic performance. It can also protect students from harassment
based on sexual orientation or gender identity and improve school climates for all students in the long term.
Parents / Guardians
Transportation
Yellow school bus service may be impacted by last-minute staffing challenges due to illness/weather. Families should have back-up plans in place if transportation is unavailable.
If your child’s bus is delayed, please check the CBE transportation website: https://cbe.ab.ca/schools/busing-and-transportation/Pages/default.aspx OR MyBusStop App for more information. The MidSun school code is: CBEMIKZSDO
This could also impact families using Calgary Transit.
Healthy Hunger - Fun Lunches are finished for this year.
All proceeds made from these Fun Lunches goes directly back to the school to enhance your child's education. Thank you for your support this year!
