From Administration
A sincere thank you to our band families who took the time to complete the recent Band Camp survey. We received responses from 87% of families, which is incredibly helpful as we plan for these important learning opportunities for our students. Your feedback allows our team to better understand family interest and ensure we can organize camps that are meaningful, accessible, and well supported.
Information about the upcoming Band Camps will be shared with families after Spring Break, once final planning details are confirmed. For your planning purposes, the tentative dates are:
• May 14–15 – Grade 8 & 9 Band Camp
• June 4–5 – Grade 7 Band Camp
Thank you again to our band community for your engagement and support of our music program.
- Reminder:
Friday, March 20 is an Non-Instructional Day for staff, and there will be No School for students. - Spring Break will take place March 23–27. We hope all MidSun families enjoy a restful and well-deserved break.
PIZZA Thursday - March 19
We are looking for two parent volunteers to help with pizza pick up for our upcoming PIZZA Thursday fundraiser on March 19.
The pizzas will need to be picked up from Costco (Tsuu T’ina location) at 12:30 PM. Approximately 40 large hot pizzas will be ready for pick up and delivered to the school in time for lunch sales.
Our first PIZZA Thursday two weeks ago was a huge success, and students were very excited about the opportunity to purchase pizza at lunch. Thank you to our school community for supporting this initiative.
Pizza Thursday Details:
- Date: March 19
- Pizza Slices: $3.00 per slice
- Options: Cheese or Pepperoni
- Payment: Cash only
- No pre-ordering necessary
All proceeds from PIZZA Thursdays support our Grade 9 SALTS Sailing Trip.
If you are available to assist with the pizza pick up, please email Jenn Grant at jlgrant@cbe.ab.ca
Thank you for helping support our students and school activities!
Did You Know? - MidSun School Safety Update
MidSun School recently participated in a formal Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) audit on March 11. These audits take place periodically across Calgary Board of Education schools to ensure that our learning and working environments are safe, well maintained, and aligned with provincial safety standards and CBE procedures.
The purpose of the audit is to review important safety practices such as emergency procedures, safe classrooms and learning spaces, storage of materials, and general safety awareness within the school. The goal is always continuous improvement so that schools remain welcoming, caring, and safe environments for students, staff, and visitors.
Safety is a shared responsibility, and families and students also play an important role. Parents can support school safety by keeping emergency contact information updated, reviewing school safety expectations with their child, and ensuring students come prepared for the weather and school activities. Students help by following school safety guidelines, reporting concerns to staff, and being respectful of shared spaces and equipment.
We are proud of the work our staff and students do every day to keep MidSun a safe and supportive place to learn.
Don’t forget to check our MidSun Calendar regularly for key dates and upcoming events.
Badminton Tryouts – Starting After Spring Break
Badminton tryouts will begin right after Spring Break. MidSun fields separate teams for each grade level, with each team consisting of 11 male and 11 female players.
Once teams are selected, students can expect two practices per week along with one divisional tournament.
Tournament Dates (approximate):
- Grade 9: April 29 or 30
- Grades 7 & 8: Between May 7–12
Students must sign up to try out for the badminton team and ensure they have completed the required forms before participating.
Required forms include:
- Annual Authorization for Tryouts Form
- Fairness and Safety in Sport Form (required for female athletes)
These forms are available in the gym for students to complete prior to tryouts.
If your student has already tried out for or participated on a MidSun school team this year, these forms will already be on file and do not need to be completed again.
