From Administration

It will be a great week of warmer weather in Calgary. Phys Ed classes will take place outside so please ensure your child is dressed appropriately with appropriate footwear to participate in the track and field unit.

Parent PowerSchool Access Update

A reminder to parents that this week will be the final week to view student information on PowerSchool. As of Friday, May 30, PowerSchool access will be temporarily disabled to allow teachers time to complete report card entries. We encourage you to check in before Friday if you'd like to review your child’s current progress. Please contact your child’s teachers with any questions or concerns.

PATs Grade 9

The first exam for Grade 9 provincial achievement tests takes place on Thursday, May 29 - Grade 9 ELA - Written - Part A. All Exams Begin at 9:15 AM - Students Arrive at School for regular bell times to ensure they have enough time to prepare prior to the start of the exam.

Tips for Families to help prepare for PATs.

1. Understand the Purpose of PATs
PATs are used to assess how well students are learning the Alberta curriculum and to help schools identify areas for improvement. Reassure your child that these tests are not about ranking them, but about showing what they’ve learned so far.

2. Prioritize Rest and Routine
Make sure your child gets a good night's sleep before each exam day. A well-rested mind performs better. Stick to regular routines, including healthy meals and limited screen time, especially the night before.

3. Stay Positive and Supportive
Offer encouragement and remind your child that these tests are just one part of their learning journey. A calm, supportive home environment helps build confidence and reduces test anxiety.

Wellness Day – Friday, May 30

We’re excited to host our Wellness Day event on Friday, May 30! All students have signed up for two engaging sessions, and we extend our sincere thanks to our dedicated MidSun teachers for organizing this meaningful day that promotes health, well-being, and personal growth.

We’re also honored to welcome Ryan Straschnitzki as our keynote speaker. Ryan was paralyzed from the chest down in the tragic 2018 Humboldt Broncos bus accident that claimed 16 lives and injured 13 others. Since then, he has shown remarkable resilience, continuing to pursue athletic competition with the goal of representing Team Canada in wheelchair basketball at the 2028 Paralympics. Ryan will share his inspiring story of determination and perseverance with our students, focusing on resilience and overcoming life’s challenges.

We look forward to a powerful and uplifting day for all!

Athletics

The track and field team tryouts start next week after school.  If your student wants to try and get a faster time, a higher jump or a longer throw they can attend any practices they like.  Practices start at 3:50pm, and go till whenever each student is done. The latest finish time would be at 5:00 pm. They can attend multiple events each day if they choose.  Your student will be informed the first week of June if they made the track team and will be invited to attend the track meet at foothills athletic park all day on Wednesday June 11th.

Spring Carnival  June 2, 2025

The Leadership classes at MidSun School have been preparing for our traditional Spring Carnival. The theme for this year's carnival is: MidSun's Multiverse of Madness! This is a school wide event that will be focusing on raising money for this year's charity winner: The Children's Grief Centre.

The gymnasium will be transformed into a fun-filled day of games and activities for students to play. Students will need to either purchase a wristband for $10 or some individual tickets. A wristband allows for unlimited play. Students will have the chance to win draw tickets, and these draw tickets will be entered for a chance to win prizes. In past carnivals some of the amazing prizes were: Air Pods; a Bluetooth speaker; Chinook Mall gift card; Amazon gift card  etc. Prizes will be similar again this year and announced once they have been purchased.

Thank you for your support in this Annual Charity Event!
