VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
We are looking for some parent volunteers to attend one OR both of the following trips in June for our Grade 7 students.
Tuesday, June 4: Vertigo Theatre – Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson
Tuesday, June 25: Heritage Park – Living History, Self-Guided Visit
If you are interested in volunteering for either of these trips, please email Danielle Drefko at djdrefko@cbe.ab.ca with the subject “Grade 7 Parent Volunteer 2024”.
Please let me know which trip you are interested in the most. Depending on the number of responses, I may be able to have you attend more than one trip, but if there is lots of interest then it will be one or the other, so your preference is important.
**Please email me no later than May 29, 2024**
Moving Soon?
If your student is moving out of the MidSun School boundary, please you call the school or email midsun@cbe.ab.ca to inform us that your child(ren) will not be attending next year. This helps us prepare for the upcoming school year.
Absent or Leaving Early?
Please email midsun@cbe.ab.ca to let us know if your child will be away, late, or needs to leave early for any reason. For absences greater than 3 days, an Extended Absence Form needs to be completed and sent to our office. This does not apply to absences due to illness. See more on our Attendance page.
What Happens on Fridays?
Fridays are regular, mandatory school days at MidSun and all CBE Schools. Our Fridays work on a rotating schedule so all students attends their core classes and one of their PE or complementary courses. Every other week we have one period dedicated to wellness and wellbeing. As the week draws to a close, there is a natural inclination to conclude units of study. Fridays are often the days where teachers administer summative assessments or directly oversee assignment completion. In many ways, Fridays can be the most significant day of the week in respect to student achievement.
Learning Commons
Last day to check out any new books is May 31st. Overdue lists will be sent out weekly for the month of June.
There will be a prize to the first class that returns all their books!
As of June 20, overdue books not returned will have the full cost of the book added to the student’s PowerSchool Account.
Thank you for helping to keep our book collection ready to use for next year.
MIDSUN FUNDRAISERS
Spring Carnival - June 3, 2024
The Leadership classes at MidSun School have been preparing for our traditional Spring Carnival. This is a school wide event that will be focusing on raising money for Charity and bringing our school together for a common cause.
The gymnasium will be transformed into a fun-filled day of games and activities for students to play. Students can purchase a wristband for $10 or individual tickets. A wristband allows for unlimited play. Students will have the chance to win draw tickets that will be entered for a chance to win prizes. In past carnivals some of the amazing prizes were: Air Pods; Bluetooth speaker; Chinook Mall gift card; Amazon gift card, etc. Prizes will be similar this year and announced once they have been purchased.
Thank you for your support in this Annual Charity Event!
Ms. Amirault & Grade 8 & 9 Leadership Students
Cob's Bread
Did you know that if you mention Midsun school when you shop at Cob's Bread in Shawnessy, a portion of the proceeds comes back to our school? It's a tasty (and easy) way to raise money for our school!
Physical Education
All students will be participating in the track and field unit over the next few weeks. Please make sure your student is wearing lace up running shoes and athletic clothing. It is also important for students to have hats/sunglasses, wearing sunscreen and bring their water bottle as they do not have access to water when they are outside.
Athletics - Track and Field
The track and field team consists of the top scoring athletes in each grade for each event. We compete at the Foothills Athletic Field on Friday June 14, from 9:00am-4:00pm. We have started track and field in PE and are getting lots of results from the students' throws, jumps and runs. If your student was absent and would like to try out for an event for our team, we will post some tryout dates during the first week of June.

What is a GSA?
Gay Straight Alliances / Genders & Sexualities Alliances, or GSAs for short, are student-run organizations that unite LGBTQIA2+ and allied youth to build community and organize issues impacting them in their schools and communities. GSAs have evolved beyond their traditional role to serve as safe spaces for LGBTQIA2+ youth in middle and high schools and have emerged as vehicles for deep social change related to racial, gender, and educational justice.
A growing body of research confirms that the presence of a GSA has a positive and lasting effect on student health, wellness, and academic performance. It can also protect students from harassment
based on sexual orientation or gender identity and improve school climates for all students in the long term.
Parents / Guardians
Transportation
Yellow school bus service may be impacted by last-minute staffing challenges due to illness/weather. Families should have back-up plans in place if transportation is unavailable.
If your child’s bus is delayed, please check the CBE transportation website: https://cbe.ab.ca/schools/busing-and-transportation/Pages/default.aspx OR MyBusStop App for more information. The MidSun school code is: CBEMIKZSDO
This could also impact families using Calgary Transit.
Healthy Hunger - Fun Lunches
To order your child a lunch please click this link: https://healthyhunger.ca/
All orders close 5 days before the lunch event.
If you have never created an account you will need to register a new account. If you have previously ordered from Health Hunger (from any school) you can just log in. From your account, you will have to register your student at MidSun using their homeroom and teacher. For example: 071/Hanson. Please ensure you have the correct homeroom number as this is how lunches will be distributed. All proceeds made from these Fun Lunches goes directly back to the school to enhance your child's education. Thank you for your support!
