FROM THE OFFICE

Math 15 Online – May 8 is Deadline to contact Teachers

Does your student need a bit more math this summer to boost their confidence before taking Grade 10 math?  The CBE has a solution for you.  Students can take Math 15 online in July through the D2L platform. Math 15 is a useful course to review Math 9 content in preparation for grade 10 math, it does not teach grade 10 math concepts.  It is also a three-credit course that will show up on the student’s high school transcript.  Please contact your child’s math teacher by Wednesday, May 8 if you are interested in having your student take this course this summer. Due to high interest across the CBE, there is no guarantee that your child will be accepted into the course. Confirmation of enrollment will be sent to parents, from CBeLearn, between June 3-7.

 Mr. Rae – 9-1, 9-2, 9-3 (kprae@cbe.ab.ca)
Mr. Stone – 9-4, 9-5, 9-6 (iwstone@cbe.ab.ca)
Ms. Inkster – 9-7 (sdinkster@cbe.ab.ca)

2023-2024 Yearbook – Order Deadline is May 24!

Order Yearbooks on your student’s PowerSchool account. You will need to add this $30 yearbook fee from the Goods and Services tab. If you are having difficulties please contact the office for assistance. Yearbooks will be delivered in September, but must be ordered by May 24.  Purchase a yearbook to invest in this amazing memory for the future!

Moving Soon?

If your student is moving out of the MidSun School boundary, please you call the school or email midsun@cbe.ab.ca to inform us that your child(ren) will not be attending next year. This helps us prepare for the upcoming school year.

Absent or Leaving Early?

Please email midsun@cbe.ab.ca to let us know if your child will be away, late, or needs to leave early for any reason. For absences greater than 3 days, an Extended Absence Form needs to be completed and sent to our office. This does not apply to absences due to illness. See more on our Attendance page.

What Happens on Fridays?
Fridays are regular, mandatory school days at MidSun and all CBE Schools. Our Fridays work on a rotating schedule so all students attends their core classes and one of their PE or complementary courses. Every other week we have one period dedicated to wellness and wellbeing. As the week draws to a close, there is a natural inclination to conclude units of study. Fridays are often the days where teachers administer summative assessments or directly oversee assignment completion. In many ways, Fridays can be the most significant day of the week in respect to student achievement.

GSA

We will meet every day 3 at lunch in the Drama room. All are welcome!

What is a GSA?
Gay Straight Alliances / Genders & Sexualities Alliances, or GSAs for short, are student-run organizations that unite LGBTQIA2+ and allied youth to build community and organize issues impacting them in their schools and communities. GSAs have evolved beyond their traditional role to serve as safe spaces for LGBTQIA2+ youth in middle and high schools and have emerged as vehicles for deep social change related to racial, gender, and educational justice.

A growing body of research confirms that the presence of a GSA has a positive and lasting effect on student health, wellness, and academic performance. It can also protect students from harassment
based on sexual orientation or gender identity and improve school climates for all students in the long term.

Transportation

Yellow school bus service may be impacted by last-minute staffing challenges due to illness/weather. Families should have back-up plans in place if transportation is unavailable.

If your child’s bus is delayed, please check the CBE transportation website:  https://cbe.ab.ca/schools/busing-and-transportation/Pages/default.aspx OR MyBusStop App for more information.  The MidSun school code is: CBEMIKZSDO

This could also impact families using Calgary Transit.
