From Administration

It’s been wonderful having everyone back at MidSun this week!

Thank you for bringing your energy, care, and positivity back into the building. As we head into Fall Break, we hope you take time to rest, recharge, and reflect in honour of Remembrance Day.

Cell Phone Policy

Parents - We need your help. Please review with your child over the Fall break prior to returning to school. Since returning back to school, there has been a significant increase in cell phones at MidSun during the school day.

Please review with your child the CBE Cell Phone Police as per Alberta Legislation - August 2024.  These rules will apply to all students, with exceptions for students using devices for health and medical needs, to support specialized learning needs and for educational purposes.

The CBE’s Personal Communication Devices policy requires that student devices are turned off or silenced and kept out of sight during the school day.

  • For Kindergarten to Grade 9, phones, AirPods, and smartwatches must be stored in lockers or backpacks and not used at all during instructional hours.
  • Personal mobile devices include any device that can be used to communicate with or access the internet, such as a cell phone, tablet, gaming device, laptop or smartwatch. This also includes devices capable of communicating with a mobile device such as headphones and bluetooth devices (e.g. earbuds and speakers.)
  • After school, students must exit the building before using their cell phones (not in hallways or at lockers).
  • If students are staying for a club or team practice after 4:00 PM, device use is at the discretion of the supervising teacher.

We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a focused and respectful learning environment for all students.

What happens if you do not leave your devices in your locker?

Student personal mobile devices will be sent with student to the main office to meet with an administrator. Personal mobile device will be labelled with student name, homeroom, date and time.

  • 1st warning – Student will bring their personal mobile device to the office, speak with an Administrator and pick it up at the end of the day.
  • 2nd warning – Administrator phone call to parents to inform of 2nd infraction, personal mobile device will remain in the office for the remainder of the day.
  • 3rd infraction – Administrator phone call to parents to arrange pick up of personal mobile device from school and further discussion around future compliance of the policy.

Parking and Bus Loop

As you are getting into your new routine for picking up and dropping off your students at school, please remain mindful of traffic signs, speed limits and the many students walking to school. Sharing our space with Fish Creek School means there are twice the parents and students trying to safely navigate parking lots and streets.

Reminder: The pull through lane is for our small yellow buses, and Southbound Sunmills Drive and Eastbound Suncastle Drive are bus zones for our big yellow buses so please arrange to meet your students on one of the other side streets around our school. For the safety of our students, parents are asked to use one of the other side streets around our school. We thank you for your cooperation and help to ensure the front of our school is safe for all.

Neighborhood Courtesy
A reminder to all parents to be courteous with regards to our community neighbours. Please be mindful of driveways, cul-de-sacs, sidewalks and congestion during our busy times. Bylaw officers regularly patrol the area and complaints will be directed to their office by community members.

From Our Main Office

  • Absent or Leaving Early? Please email midsun@cbe.ab.ca  to let us know if your child will be away, late, or needs to leave early for any reason.
  • Home for lunch? MidSun School is a closed campus and students are not permitted to leave the school grounds without parent consent. If your child lives close enough to the school to go home for lunch please email midsun@cbe.ab.ca    that your child will be leaving daily for lunch. Students must check out at the office when they leave.
  • Staying for Lunch? Delivery Food Orders for students such as “Skip the Dishes, Door Dash, etc.” are not permitted at MidSun. Please do not send these orders to the school. Our main office will not accept delivery.
