Happy Halloween 🎃
We are excited to host our Grade 7- 9 Halloween Dance at the school on October 31. Thank you to our School Council for providing funds to cover the cost of the DJ for our students to show off their scary dance moves!!
Students will attend regular classes in the morning and then return to homerooms at the end of lunch for a review of dance etiquette prior to attending the event.
There will be a concession where students can purchase snacks and drinks during the dance. We are also selling pizza, but orders for the slices of pizza must be done ahead of time. Leadership students will be taking pre-sales of pizza during Monday and Tuesday at lunch. Slices are $4 each.🍕
All costumes need to be respectful of their bodies and display a sense of modesty and positive messaging with slogans and images as this is a school event. We are asking parents to keep the following in mind:
- NO costume props at school (e.g. swords, brooms, toy guns, etc.) Too frequently, these items are misplaced, forgotten at school (and students do not have them for trick or treating) or are inappropriately used within a school context.
- Refrain from costumes with makeup that creates the illusion of excessive gore.
- Student costumes are to cover undergarments.
- Costumes are not to contain offensive or suggestive slogans/phrases, promote or be related to the consumption of tobacco, alcohol, or drugs.
- As a school community we embrace an inclusive and multicultural environment that promotes respect for all people, we want to inform parents that ‘culture is not costume.’ We are asking for continued parent support that costumes that are based on cultural stereotypes are not worn to school for Halloween.
- Any student who wears a costume that is not appropriate for a school setting will be asked to remove it. If a student arrives at school wearing a costume deemed inappropriate by school staff, parents will be contacted and informed of the situation
PUMPKIN CARVING - Wednesday October 30th (LUNCHTIME)
Pumpkin carving on Wednesday October 30th in the atrium at lunch. 3 students from each Homeroom will carve a pumpkin for house points! Find your design ahead of time and be prepared to carve your best design!
HALLOWEEN DANCE and ACTIVITIES - Period 5 & 6 on Thursday October 31st
We will be hosting our first school dance of the year on the afternoon of October 31st. We have moved TA time from Friday to Thursday to accommodate for missed class time.
Students are encouraged to wear school-appropriate costumes to school for the day to earn House Points. Students have been provided the guidelines for appropriate costumes.
During the afternoon of the dance there will be many other activities available for students to participate in such as, Halloween Kahoot, Halloween movie rooms, table tennis tournament, Minecraft, Zombie Art, board games, Trivia Room, Dungeons and Dragons Game room, etc.
There will be a concession where students can purchase snacks and drinks during the dance. We are also selling pizza, but orders for the slices of pizza must be done ahead of time. Leadership students will be taking pre-sales of pizza during Monday and Tuesday at lunch. Slices are $4 each.
This Halloween Afternoon has been planned by staff and grade 9 Leadership students to help foster positive school culture and build on friendships within the school community. We hope everyone enjoys the work put into planning our event!
