From Administration

This week, we will be recognizing Secret Path Week through our daily school announcements. Inspired by Secret Path, a project by Gord Downie and Jeff Lemire, this learning shares the story of Chanie Wenjack, an Indigenous boy who died in 1966 after running away from a residential school. His story provides an important opportunity for our students to reflect on the history and lasting impacts of residential schools and deepen their understanding of Truth and Reconciliation.

On Friday, students will participate in age-appropriate learning activities and discussions during Homeroom Block. These activities will explore Indigenous perspectives, the impact of residential schools, and our shared responsibility for reconciliation. This learning supports Alberta curriculum outcomes while encouraging empathy, understanding, and respect for others. We recognize that these conversations may be emotional for some students and will approach them with care and sensitivity. Families with questions are encouraged to connect with their child's teacher.

We are also proud to share that our Grade 9 Leadership students are organizing a donation project in support of The Mustard Seed. This student-led initiative provides an opportunity for our school community to demonstrate kindness, compassion, and generosity while supporting individuals experiencing homelessness and hardship. We appreciate the leadership of our students and the generosity of families who are able to contribute.

Our Grade 9 teachers are also offering additional academic support opportunities to help students strengthen their understanding, stay on top of assignments, and build confidence in their learning. We encourage families to review the available days and times included in this newsletter and remind their children to access this support when needed.

At MidSun, we continue to emphasize the importance of kindness, perseverance, and doing our best. Whether through learning about reconciliation, helping those in need, or taking responsibility for academic success, these opportunities remind us that small actions can make a meaningful difference.

Thank you to our MidSun families for your ongoing support and partnership!

Helping Our Community: A Donation Project for The Mustard Seed

Dear Parents and Guardians,
As part of our project this November, during the month of giving thanks, our group is organizing a donation drive to support The Mustard Seed and help individuals in our community who are experiencing poverty or homelessness.

Our goal is to collect essential items from families and assemble them into tote bags to donate to The Mustard Seed. We hope this project will make a positive difference by providing individuals with everyday necessities that support personal hygiene, self-care, and daily living.

Our group chose this project after researching different ways we could make a meaningful, positive impact in our community. We believe that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in the lives of others

How can you help?

We kindly ask parents and guardians to donate any of the following items:
Every donation, big or small, is greatly appreciated! Thank you for supporting our project and helping us spread kindness, gratitude, and compassion throughout our community. Deadline for donations is: October 30

Together, we can make a difference!

Thank you for your generosity and support.

  • Personal hygiene products: toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, nail clippers, and other hygiene essentials
  • New underwear and socks
  • Winter essentials: gloves and mittens
  • Non-perishable food items: granola bars and other easy-to-carry snacks

Dressing for Fall Weather
With temperatures changing, we remind families to ensure students are dressed appropriately for outdoor activities, including Physical Education classes. Layers, jackets, and appropriate footwear will help students stay comfortable and active as we move into the cooler months.

CBE Student Well-Being Survey | October 13–November 27

On October 5, families received information regarding the annual CBE Student Surveys.

Students will have the opportunity to participate in the Fall CBE Well-Being Survey between October 13 and November 27. This voluntary and anonymous survey gathers student feedback about belonging, relationships, safety, and well-being. Student voice is an important part of our school improvement planning and helps us better understand students' experiences at MidSun.

Parental consent is collected through the Annual Authorization Forms in SchoolEngage. Families who have already completed these forms do not need to take further action. Families who have not yet completed them are asked to do so by Friday, October 9. As outlined in the October 5 letter, if no response is received by the deadline, consent will be assumed. Student participation remains voluntary.

Thank you to our MidSun families for your continued partnership and support. We look forward to another great week of learning, connection, and opportunities for our students!

Fridays Matter – Finish the Week Strong!

A shorter day doesn't mean a less important day!

At MidSun, Fridays are an important part of our learning week. Students continue to build skills, connect with classmates, and engage in meaningful learning experiences.

Regular Friday attendance helps students maintain routines, keep up with classroom learning, and develop the responsibility and independence that support long-term success.

Every day of learning matters, and every Friday is an opportunity to finish the week strong!

Thank you, families, for supporting consistent attendance and helping our students make the most of every school day!
