Celebrating World Teachers’ Day – October 5
As we recognize World Teachers’ Day on October 5, we want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible teachers at MidSun. Every day, our teachers create welcoming classrooms, build meaningful relationships, inspire curiosity and support our students as they learn and grow. Thank you to our MidSun teachers for the care, energy and commitment you bring to our students and school community each day!
Our 2026–27 Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation
In recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day and in alignment with the CBE Education Plan, MidSun School acknowledges and supports the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action. Truth-and-Reconciliation-Commit…
This year, our commitment is to build staff and student purpose, community, action and knowledge through Kimmapiiyipitssini (kindness) and Iikakimat (hard work). Together, we will greet each other—and opportunities to learn from Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing—like we greet the sun. Truth-and-Reconciliation-Commit…

Thank you, MidSun! Our Terry Fox donations have reached $2,235, which means that for the first time in MidSun history, every staff challenge has been unlocked! We are so grateful for the generosity and school spirit of our community. From costumes and spray tans to an ice bucket, ghost pepper, tattoos and even an ear piercing, our staff now have some promises to keep! Watch for the challenges to unfold and thank you for supporting the Terry Fox Foundation.
There is still time to contribute! Online donations will remain open until October 16.

Thank you for helping us keep Terry’s Marathon of Hope alive!
Lockdown Practice #1
MidSun will be completing our first lockdown practice of the year this week, with members of the Calgary Police Service (CPS) onsite to assist. Lockdown practices are an important part of CBE emergency response planning and help ensure students and staff are familiar with procedures and know how to respond calmly and safely in an emergency.
DRAMA
Drama Field Trip: Little Shop of Horrors at Theatre Calgary!
We have the exciting opportunity to bring 60 students to see Little Shop of Horrors at Theatre Calgary on Oct. 14th at 11:00 AM. Due to the limited number of tickets, priority will be given to Drama students first, followed by Grade 9, Grade 8, and Grade 7 students. Within each group, tickets will be allocated based on the order that completed field trip forms are returned.
Students should see Ms. Zima to pick up a field trip form and return it as soon as possible. Once all 60 tickets have been allocated, we will be at capacity.
Our 2026–27 MidSun Musical is… Seussical Jr.
We are excited to announce that Ms. Zima and our Drama Club will be presenting Seussical Jr. as this year’s MidSun musical!
Want to be part of the musical? Students interested in participating on stage or backstage are invited to join us.
- First rehearsal: Friday, Oct. 2
- Time: 1:30–3:00 p.m.
- Music rehearsals: Fridays from October–December, 1:30–3:00 p.m.
- No previous stage experience is necessary!
Come sing, perform, create and help bring Seussical Jr. to the MidSun stage! Questions? Please see Ms. Zima.
Fridays Matter at MidSun
Did you know… attendance adds up?
- The school year includes 188 instructional days
- Missing 1 day means missing 1 full day of learning and connection
- Missing 5 days is the equivalent of one full week of instruction
- Missing 10 days equals almost two weeks of learning
- Even occasional absences can impact continuity, relationships, and progress
- Fridays are full instructional days, just like every other day of the week
Regular attendance supports learning, well-being, and a strong sense of belonging at school.
