Meet the Teacher – Thursday, September 24 at 4:30–6:00 p.m.

We look forward to welcoming families to our Meet the Teacher Evening on Thursday, September 24 from 4:30–6:00 p.m. This is an opportunity to meet your child’s teachers, visit classrooms and tour MidSun School.

Grade 9 Families – SALTS Sailing Trip: A parent information session will also be offered for families interested in learning more about the Grade 9 SALTS Sailing trip, including trip details, costs and other important information.

The SALTS Sailing Trip offers Grade 9 students a unique opportunity to live and learn aboard a working sailing vessel. During the trip, students become active members of the crew, learning to steer the ship, stand morning and evening watch, assist with meals and deck duties, tie knots, and develop an understanding of sailing terminology and theory. Students will also participate in shore excursions, games, evening activities, and memorable challenges such as climbing the mast.

This experience requires students to demonstrate responsibility, reliability, respect, and independence. Students should be comfortable being away from home, spending several days without electronics or regular contact with family, and prepared for the possibility of seasickness.

For planning purposes, the cost of the trip last year was approximately $2,400 per student. Families interested in learning more are invited to attend the SALTS Parent/Guardian Information Session after Meet the Teacher on September 24 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m., where trip details, expectations, costs, and next steps will be shared.

Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch – Ordering is Now Open!

Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch is now open and ready for ordering! Fun Lunches will be delivered on Wednesdays, with the order deadline on the Friday before each Fun Lunch.

Parents – Are you able to help with our Fun Lunches? We are looking for parent volunteers to assist with sorting and distributing lunches on Fun Lunch days. If you are available to help, please sign up using the volunteer link below:

Important: When registering your child, please double-check that you select the correct homeroom. This helps ensure lunches are delivered to the right classroom and prevents students from missing their ordered lunch.

Congratulations to all the students that are representing our school on the senior basketball teams.  This week the junior teams will start their tryouts. Good luck!

Soccer

Good luck to our soccer teams that are playing their first games at MidSun school this week. Games will be played on the Fish Creek School Field (next door) as our field is getting worked on.

Cross-Country

Congratulations to our cross-country runners who ran their first race on Thursday.  Their next race is on Tuesday the September 15.

MidSun School Council – We Need You!

Our Next School Council Meeting and Annual General Meeting is on Tuesday, September 22 at 6:00 pm. Our meeting will be held in our Learning Commons - doors open at 5:45 pm. 

 All parents are welcome to attend our monthly meetings. This is a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other parents to make a positive impact on the education and experience of our students.

Our School Council is an important way for parents and guardians to be involved in the MidSun community, share their perspectives, and support our students and school.

At our Annual General Meeting on September 22, elections will be held for this year’s School Council. We are looking for parents and guardians who are interested in volunteering their time and getting involved.

 Yearbook Update

If you purchased a MidSun Yearbook, distribution will take place this upcoming week. Copies for our former Grade 9 students will be delivered directly to Centennial High School. We can’t wait for you to enjoy the memories and highlights captured from last year!

 Online Forms! Deadline to Complete is September 14 

Please remember to read the Welcome Package of information that was sent home on the first day of school. Forms need to be signed and returned to your child’s homeroom teacher as soon as possible. To subscribe to receive commercial messages, go to www.cbe.ab.ca/subscribe to enter your email address and click subscribe. Use your primary email address on file at your school.

Some of our school forms are now completed online through your MyCBE account.

Each year, schools have a variety of forms that parents / legal guardians / independent students are required to complete or review and update, some of which are paper and others online.
If you have already completed your annual forms, you can disregard this email.

 In CBE, the forms in an online format (SchoolEngage) are:

 • Demographic Verification - 2026-27 – This required form is an Alberta Education and Childcare requirement as proof of Registration for funding purposes and includes your child’s personal information as well as parent / legal guardian contact information. 

• Citizenship Information Update - 2026-27 – This form becomes available and is required to complete if you change your child’s citizenship information on the Demographic Verification form.

• Annual Authorization - 2026-27 – Combines the following forms:

o School District Use of Personal Information - explains how CBE uses personal information in providing education services.

o Consent for CBE Use of Student Information – provides an option to grant / not grant consent for additional use of student information by school/district and third parties.

o Consent for Use of Student Information by News Media and Outside Groups (Third Party) - provides an option to grant / not grant consent for additional use of student information by outside groups and third parties
o Consent for Student Participation in Annual CBE Surveys – these surveys support school and system planning and help improve programs and supports offered to students
o Parental Opt-In for Notifiable curriculum for students in grades 3 to 9 – written consent of parents prior to providing instructions or materials that deal primarily and explicitly with human sexuality, gender identity or sexual orientation. Students are unable to participate in this portion of the curriculum unless consent is granted.

 SchoolEngage is one of the applications found in your MyCBE account. This is the same account used to pay fees, view academic information, book school conferences, register to volunteer etc.

 If you do not have a MyCBE account, click Create a MyCBE Account on the MyCBE page. For online help, refer to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video).

 To complete these forms:

1. sign in to your MyCBE account

2. click on the SchoolEngage icon

3. select the form

4. complete or review and update the form

5. click on Submit to send the form electronically to the school

6. repeat steps 3-5 for each form

 Please submit the Demographic Verification and Annual Authorization forms in SchoolEngage for your child by Monday, Sep. 14.  These forms are mandatory every year for Alberta Education and Childcare to confirm student funding.

• Does your child require an Epipen? For students who require access to medical supplies at school (i.e. epipen), please submit a Student Health Plan​ as soon as possible to midsun@cbe.ab.ca - Forms are available here - https://www.cbe.ab.ca/health-and-wellness-in-school

Reminders From Our Main Office 

• Absent or Leaving Early? Please email midsun@cbe.ab.ca to let us know if your child will be away, late, or needs to leave early for any reason. 
• Home for lunch? MidSun School is a closed campus and students are not permitted to leave the school grounds without parent consent. If your child lives close enough to the school to go home for lunch please email midsun@cbe.ab.ca  that your child will be leaving daily for lunch. Students must check out at the office when they leave.
• Staying for Lunch? Delivery Food Orders for students such as “Skip the Dishes, Door Dash, etc.” are not permitted at MidSun. Please do not send these orders to the school. Our main office will not accept delivery.
• Please note that students need to provide their own utensils at lunch.

Parking and Bus Loop
As you are getting into your new routine for picking up and dropping off your students at school, please remain mindful of traffic signs, speed limits and the many students walking to school. Sharing our space with Fish Creek School means there are twice the parents and students trying to safely navigate parking lots and streets.

Reminder:
The pull through lane is for our small yellow buses, and Southbound Sunmills Drive and Eastbound Suncastle Drive are bus zones for our big yellow buses so please arrange to meet your students on one of the other side streets around our school. For the safety of our students, parents are asked to use one of the other side streets around our school. We thank you for your cooperation and help to ensure the front of our school is safe for all.

Neighborhood Courtesy
A reminder to all parents to be courteous with regards to our community neighbours. Please be mindful of driveways, cul-de-sacs, sidewalks and congestion during our busy times. Bylaw officers regularly patrol the area and complaints will be directed to their office by community members.
