Orange Shirt Day & Truth and Reconciliation Learning
In preparation for Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, MidSun students are engaging in learning about land, language, names, stories and responsibility. Students are exploring why Orange Shirt Day needs to be connected to meaningful learning, while considering what they notice, what they learn, and what responsibility they can carry forward.
This learning also connects students to Treaty 7, Indigenous languages and place, including our own relationship with Fish Creek and the MidSun community. Students are encouraged to listen carefully, learn respectfully, and consider their relationships to land, language and community.
We are honoured to welcome Walter White Bear and Samantha Whelan-Kotkas to MidSun on Wednesday, September 23. Through music and storytelling, their visit will build upon this learning and provide another meaningful opportunity for students to listen, reflect and deepen their understanding of Truth and Reconciliation. We invite students to wear orange shirts on both September 24 and 29.
Meet the Teacher – Thursday, September 24 | 4:30–6:00 p.m.
Families are invited to meet their child’s teachers, visit classrooms and tour MidSun School.
Grade 9 SALTS Sailing Trip Information Session | 6:00–7:00 p.m.
Grade 9 families interested in the SALTS Sailing Trip are invited to stay for an information session following Meet the Teacher. SALTS offers students a unique opportunity to live and learn aboard a working sailing vessel while developing responsibility, independence and teamwork.
Students should be comfortable being away from home for several days, without electronics or regular contact with family, and prepared for the possibility of seasickness. Last year’s cost was approximately $2,400 per student.
The session will review trip details, student readiness and expectations, costs, and next steps.
Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch – Ordering is Now Open!
Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch is now open and ready for ordering! Fun Lunches will be delivered on Wednesdays, with the order deadline on the Friday before each Fun Lunch.
Parents – Are you able to help with our Fun Lunches? We are looking for parent volunteers to assist with sorting and distributing lunches on Fun Lunch days. If you are available to help, please sign up using the volunteer link below:

Important: When registering your child, please double-check that you select the correct homeroom. This helps ensure lunches are delivered to the right classroom and prevents students from missing their ordered lunch.

MidSun School Council – We Need You!
Our Next School Council Meeting and Annual General Meeting is on Tuesday, September 22 at 6:00 pm. Our meeting will be held in our Learning Commons - doors open at 5:45 pm.
All parents are welcome to attend our monthly meetings. This is a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other parents to make a positive impact on the education and experience of our students.

Our School Council is an important way for parents and guardians to be involved in the MidSun community, share their perspectives, and support our students and school.
At our Annual General Meeting on September 22, elections will be held for this year’s School Council. We are looking for parents and guardians who are interested in volunteering their time and getting involved.

You do not need previous School Council experience — just an interest in contributing to our MidSun community!

- Does your child require an Epipen? For students who require access to medical supplies at school (i.e. epipen), please submit a Student Health Plan as soon as possible to midsun@cbe.ab.ca - Forms are available here - https://www.cbe.ab.ca/health-and-wellness-in-school
Reminders From Our Main Office
- Absent or Leaving Early? Please email midsun@cbe.ab.ca to let us know if your child will be away, late, or needs to leave early for any reason.
- Home for lunch? MidSun School is a closed campus and students are not permitted to leave the school grounds without parent consent. If your child lives close enough to the school to go home for lunch please email midsun@cbe.ab.ca that your child will be leaving daily for lunch. Students must check out at the office when they leave.
- Staying for Lunch? Delivery Food Orders for students such as “Skip the Dishes, Door Dash, etc.” are not permitted at MidSun. Please do not send these orders to the school. Our main office will not accept delivery.
- Please note that students need to provide their own utensils at lunch.
