MidSun First Week Highlights

Our MidSun students and staff had a fantastic first week back!

With our new bell times, student entry doors open at 9:00 am. This is also when supervision begins. If your child needs to arrive earlier, please make alternate arrangements, particularly as colder weather approaches.

Thank you to our Grade 7 families who joined us for the Welcome to Junior High Orientation on the first day of school. We’ve attached the presentation slides for you to review together with your Grade 7 student. Linked HERE

This week, all Grade 7, 8, and 9 students also attended a school-wide assembly reviewing our expectations and MidSun protocols. We encourage families to revisit these key points with their children at home to help set a strong foundation for the year. Linked HERE

Fun Lunch (Healthy Hunger) will be returning to MidSun this year! We’ll share more details later this month once dates are confirmed and vendors are selected.

Yearbook Update

If you purchased a MidSun Yearbook, distribution will take place next week. Copies for our former Grade 9 students will be delivered directly to Centennial High School. We can’t wait for you to enjoy the memories and highlights captured from last year!

NEW Ministerial Orders - September 1, 2025

Under the Education Amendment Act, 2024, schools are now required to notify—and, for students under 16, obtain parental consent—if a student requests to use preferred names or pronouns different from those assigned at birth.

The CBE remains committed to fostering safe, respectful, and equitable environments for all students in accordance with provincial legislation and our broader educational values.

Online Forms!

Please remember to read the Welcome Package of information that was sent home on the first day of school. Forms need to be signed and returned to your child’s homeroom teacher as soon as possible. To subscribe to receive commercial messages, go to www.cbe.ab.ca/subscribe to enter your email address and click subscribe. Use your primary email address on file at your school.

Some of our school forms are now completed online through your MyCBE account.

Complete Online Forms by Sept. 15

Each year, schools have a variety of forms that parents / legal guardians / independent students are required to complete or review and update, some of which are paper and others online. For families who have not yet completed these annual forms, please submit the Demographic Verification and Annual Authorization forms in SchoolEngage for your child by Monday, Sept. 15. These forms are required every year for Alberta Education to confirm student funding. We recognize certain families have already completed Demographic Verification and Annual Authorization forms for their children for the 2025-26 school year and we thank you for taking time to submit them.

Details of the online forms found in SchoolEngage include:

  • Demographic Verification - 2025-26 – This required form is an Alberta Education requirement as proof of Registration for funding purposes and includes your child’s personal information as well as parent / legal guardian contact information.
  • Citizenship Information Update - 2025-26 – This form becomes available if you change your child’s citizenship information on the Demographic Verification form.
  • Annual Authorization - 2025-26 – Combines the following forms:
    • School District Use of Personal Information - explains how CBE uses personal information in providing education services.
    • Consent for CBE Use of Student Information – provides an option to grant / not grant consent for additional use of student information by school/district and third parties.
    • Consent for Use of Student Information by News Media and Outside Groups (Third Party) - provides an option to grant / not grant consent for additional use of student information by outside groups and third parties

SchoolEngage is one of the applications found in your MyCBE account. This is the same account that you use to pay fees, view academic information, book school conferences, register to volunteer etc.

If you do not have a MyCBE account, on the MyCBE page click on Create a MyCBE Account. For online help, refer to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video).

To complete these forms:

  1. sign in to your MyCBE account
  2. click on the SchoolEngage icon
  3. select the form
  4. complete or review and update the form
  5. click on Submit to send the form electronically to the school
  6. repeat steps 3-5 for each form

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school. Thank you to everyone for taking time to complete and submit annual forms each year.

Subscribe to School Messages

To ensure you receive important emails from your child’s school and the CBE, you must subscribe to the service. If your contact information has changed, you need to update your information with your child’s school and subscribe to your new email and phone number.

If your child is new to the CBE or if you have recently changed your phone number, you should receive a text (SMS) message from 978338 asking if you would like to receive Calgary Board of Education alerts. This message is safe and sent for your protection.

Parking and Bus Loop
As you are getting into your new routine for picking up and dropping off your students at school please remain mindful of traffic signs, speed limits and the many students walking to school. Sharing our space with Fish Creek School means there are twice the parents and students trying to safely navigate parking lots and streets.

Reminder:
The pull through lane is for our small yellow buses, and Southbound Sunmills Drive and Eastbound Suncastle Drive are bus zones for our big yellow buses so please arrange to meet your students on one of the other side streets around our school. For the safety of our students, parents are asked to use one of the other side streets around our school. We thank you for your cooperation and help to ensure the front of our school is safe for all.

Neighborhood Courtesy
A reminder to all parents to be courteous with regards to our community neighbours. Please be mindful of driveways, cul-de-sacs, sidewalks and congestion during our busy times. Bylaw officers regularly patrol the area and complaints will be directed to their office by community members.

From School Council

Our Next School Council Meeting is on Tuesday, September 23 at 6:00 pm. Our meeting will be held in our Learning Commons - doors open at 5:45 pm.
